Arleen McManus

Arleen McManusArleen McManus is beginning her second year at Smith Academy and has been working in education since 2011. She has a Bachelors Degree in Architecture from the University of Architecture from Argentina.

Mrs. McManus is from Spring, Texas and is interested in puzzles, drawing, and reading. Some of her favorite books include Michelangelo: Scultpor, Painter, Architect by Charles Sala and Michelangelo Buonarroti and The History of Art: The Essential Guide to Painting Through the Ages by A.N. Hodge.

She is curious about art and science.

Alonzo Mims


Alonzo MimsAlonzo Mims has been working at Smith Academy since 2013 and has been working in education since 2010. He has a Bachelors Degree in Theology and Leadership from the College of Biblical Studies.

Mr. Mims is from Natchitoches, Louisiana and is interested in cycling and reading. Some of his favorite books include Visionneering by Andy Stanley and If You Can See You Can Be It by Jeff Henderson.

He is curious about history and epistemology (How do we know what we know?).

Rocio Ruiz

Rocio RuizRocio Ruiz is beginning her second year at Smith Academy and has been working in education since 2011. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Houston Downtown.

Ms. Ruiz is from the State of Guanajuato, Mexico and is interested in Latin music and dance, fitness and health, and is a ZUMBA instructor. Some of her favorite books include Esparanza Rising and Dr. Seuss books.

She is curious about how to create a relationship with her students and meeting new people to work as a team.

Diane Velasquez

Diane VelasquezDiane Velasquez has been working at Smith Academy since 2014. She has earned a Bachelor degree in Public Relations from the University of Texas - San Antonio.

Ms. Velasquez is from Houston, Texas and is interested in spontaneous trips and trying new restaurants. Some of her favorite books include Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden and Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss.

She is curious about different cultures.

Katherine Vera

Katherine VeraKatherine Vera is beginning her second year at Smith Academy and has been working in education since 2009. She earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bowling Green State University.

Mrs. Vera is from Cincinnati, Ohio, and is interested in reading, road trips, camping, hiking, and children's literature. Some of her favorite books include Grandfather Twilight by Barbara Berger and A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson.

She is curious about the future of our world and the vastness of the universe.

Ms. Wodzicki is from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and is interested in hiking, road cycling, photography, and reading. Some of her favorite books include The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and No Jumping On The Bed by Tedd Arnold.

She is curious about child development, the human brain and behavior, and traveling.
