Benita Trejo 

Hi spectacular Stallions and parents! My name is Benita Hernandez-
Trejo and I am going to be your Bilingual reading teacher
this school year. This will be my 17 year in education and my First
year here at Smith Academy. I love what I teach because reading is
a key to success. It provides the foundation and opportunity to our
students to become Lifelong Learners! I have a Bachelor of Primary Education from University of Houston-Downtown. This year we will be learning many new things!

I grew up in Houston and my favorite things to do include Reading,

Sarah Weller

Hi spectacular Stallions and parents! My name is Sarah Weller and I am going to be your ELA and Social Studies teacher this school year. This will be my 3rd year in education and my 1st year here at Smith Elementary. I love what I teach because reading is a key to success. It provides a plethora of opportunity to our students and also makes them become a Life Long Learner!

I have a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies degree from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. This year we will be learning many new things! I cannot wait to help you get better at Reading and Writing!I grew up in McAllen, Texas and my favorite things to do include shopping, going to coffee shops and traveling.

Laura Hastings
Hi spectacular Stallions and parents! My name is Laura Hastings. and I am going to be your Math and Science. teacher this school year. This will be my 31st. year in education and my 13th . year here at Smith Academy. I love what I teach because I enjoy watching the excitement on students faces when they discover something or learn something new. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Ed, Special Ed. , Kindergarten and Early Childhood/Handicapped degree from Lamar University. This year we will be learning many new things! I cannot wait to help you get better at using your knowledge to solve problems. I grew up in Beaumont, Texas/Bevel Oaks. and my favorite things to do include reading, working in my “She Shop” making things and biking. When I am not teaching, I spend my time with my family. Rocio Ruiz

Ms. RuizRocio Ruiz is beginning her fourth year at Smith Academy and has been working in education since 2011. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Bilingual Education from the University of Houston Downtown.

Ms. Ruiz is from the State of Guanajuato, Mexico and is interested in Latin music and dance, fitness and health, and is a ZUMBA instructor. Some of her favorite books include Esparanza Rising and Dr. Seuss books. 

She is curious about how to create a relationship with her students and meeting new people to work as a team.

Jennifer Teel

Ms. Teel

Jennifer Teel is beginning her third year at Smith Elementary and has been working in education since 2013. She received her Bachelors from Sam Houston State University.

Ms. Teel is from San Mateo, California and is interested in volunteering at church, being outdoors, and spending time with family. Some of her favorite books include A Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

She is curious about psychology, the quality of human life, and ways to develop safe communities.
