Welcome Back

It is time to come back to school!

We are excited to welcome you and your child back to campus for the 2016-2017 school year. This past school year was filled with many memorable activities and significant gains in student academic performance. We recently received our campus STAAR results, and I am pleased to inform you that our students made the largest gains of any school in our district:

·         4th grade math increased 26%

·         4th grade reading increased 35%

·         Writing increased 21%

·         3rd grade math increased 8%

·         3rd grade English reading 12%

·         3rd grade Spanish reading 50%

Additionally, students in every grade level increased their reading levels and improved their performance in mathematics. Our campus also showed the largest gain in student attendance. We appreciate your support and teamwork as we work diligently to provide a learning environment that is safe, joyful and challenging for all students.

More than 300 of you completed our parent survey at the end of the school year. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback as we continue to plan and improve our services to you and our students. More than 95% of you responded that your student enjoys coming to school, that the school staff is willing to listen, and that the environment of the school is positive. One area we will work to improve is regular and ongoing communication from teachers.

There are a few important changes in our daily schedule and school calendar this year. Please refer to the information on our website for details.  We will have a longer school day with a few more student holidays built into the calendar.

Please plan to join us at Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 18th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. School supply packs will be on sale, and you may also purchase school shirts for $10. Smith Academy will remain a uniform school this school year, and students are allowed to wear jeans on Friday with a school shirt.

Looking Forward to a Great Year!
